Baked Turkey Wontons

Recently, I have still been trying to eat somewhat clean and healthy, but I have also been having a craving for eggrolls, these ground turkey wontons are a great and healthier alternative to eggrolls but also satisfy the craving for them. Normally I make this same recipe but use eggroll wraps, but due to Walmart not having them in stock, I had to get a little creative in the kitchen.

Ingredients

  • 4 tsp sesame oil

  • 8 oz ground turkey

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1 tsp minced garlic

  • 1 tsp minced ginger

  • 2 cups of coleslaw mix

  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce

  • 24 wonton wrappers

  • Spray oil

  • 2 Tbsp corn starch or all-purpose flour

  • ¼ cup of water

Instructions

For this recipe, the instructions will be broken down into three parts: how to prepare the meat, how to prepare the coleslaw mixture and how to assemble the wontons.

To Prepare the Meat

  • Heat a pan over medium heat

  • Coat the bottom of the pan with sesame oil

  • Add in the ground turkey and break it up and cook until browned

  • Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper

  • Let cool for 5 minutes

To Prepare the Coleslaw Mixture

  • In a large mixing bowl, add the coleslaw mixture

  • Add minced garlic, minced ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil and cornstarch

  • Mix until a paste-like consistency is formed

  • Add cooled down meat and toss to combine

To Assemble the Wontons

  • Line a baking sheet with foil and lightly coat in spray oil

  • On a paper plate, lay a wonton wrapper flat

  • Place about 1 Tbsp of the coleslaw mixture in the center of the wrapper

  • Lightly coat the edges of the wonton wrapper with water

  • Fold the square wonton wrapper in half, over the mixture, to form a triangle

  • Press edges so they are securely stuck

  • Transfer wonton to a lined baking sheet

  • Repeat for all 24 wonton wrappers

  • Bake for 7 minutes at 400 F

  • Remove from the oven, flip wontons, cook for another 2 minutes

Serve with optional but highly recommended sriracha mayo and enjoy!

  2. Devyn! This recipe sounds absolutely mouth watering. I love cooking and I'm always down to try new, creative dishes. I think it's elite that you create a dish with such technicality and spices since it's from scratch. I've made wontons before, but I've never thought to put ground turkey in them! I will definitely have to try to make this dish myself. I love how you post about new recipes and I hope you post more!
